Collecting a Urine Sample at Home

Collecting a urine sample at home is often the least stressful way for your cat or dog to provide a sample.

Please follow the relevant steps below to collect the sample safely and correctly.

For Cats – Using the KatKor Kit

  1. Remove all normal litter from your cat’s litter tray.

  2. Clean the tray thoroughly using a mild detergent (e.g. washing-up liquid).

  3. Rinse very well to ensure no residue remains, as this can affect test results. Dry the tray completely.

  4. Empty the KatKor beads into the clean, dry litter tray.

  5. Once your cat has urinated, use the pipette provided to draw up the urine.

  6. Transfer the urine into the sample tube supplied in the kit.

For Dogs – Collecting a Sample

  1. Take your dog outside on a lead as normal.

  2. When your dog begins to urinate, gently place a clean, shallow container (e.g. a plastic pot or ladle) into the stream to catch a sample.

  3. Carefully transfer the urine into a clean sample container provided by us (or a clean, sealed container).

Helpful Tips

Please aim to provide as fresh a urine sample as possible — the first sample of the day is ideal.

• Urine samples are most accurate when tested fresh.

• Ideally, collect the sample, keep it refrigerated, and drop it off to us as soon as possible.
